This elegantly engraved pistol is an identical replica of the 1861 Navy revolver presented to General Custer during the Civil War. Ornately plated and engraved pieces like this one were often presented to high-ranking officers or government officials as gifts.  Cock the hammer and twirl the cylinder, and the locking pins and percussion cap will be revealed. Pull the trigger and experience the same satisfaction its owner must have felt in 1862.

The wolf’s head design on either side of the hammer was one of many fascinating flourishes added to the revolver by the famed 19th Century engraver, L.D. Nimschke. This re-creation is exact in every detail, right down to the craftsman’s guide--the letter “P”--which was placed adjacent to the serial number, calling for special handling so this weapon could be plated. The handsome grips offer an intricate eagle and shield design. The personality of this reproduction is as bold as that of its original owner.

HISTORY: Faced with financial hardship after his death, Custer's widow sold some of his guns, including this presentation revolver, after removing the nameplate in a vain attempt to prevent buyers from recognizing this famous piece.  Who knows how many hands it passed through during its long history?  We can't say--but we do know it is now in a museum far from the Little Big Horn battlefield.
