Wild Bill Hickock's 1851 Navy Revolver
State of the Gunmaker's Art
* The scrollwork on this famous old west pistol includes an intricately engraved scene depicting a battle between the Texas and Mexican navies during the Texas War for Independence--a tribute from the revolver's famous manufacturer in gratitude for the republic's loyal patronage during that war.

HISTORY: This elegant engraved piece is an exact (non-firing) reproduction of the Navy revolver carried by James Bulter "Wild Bill" Hickok.  Hickok became well known as an Army scout during the Civil War.  In fact, his pair of these beautiful revolvers was a gift from a Massachusetts Senator in recognition of his service as a scout for the Union Army during the War Between the States.

Hickock was a staunch abolitionist.  His father's farm in Illinois had been a stop on the Underground Railroad for runaway slaves, and he often defended it against slave hunters.  He was said to have been an excellent shot, even as a boy.  Following the war, he became known as a scout, Indian fighter, lawman and became legendary as a fast and deadly gunman.  For more background on Wild Bill Hickock, visit our blog, The Non-Smoking Gun.
